Last year, before COVID sent us to our bedrooms in lockdown, Dubai Metro opened four new stations on its Red Line: Jebel Ali Metro Station, The Gardens Station, Discovery Gardens Station, and Al Furjan Station. But this is by no means the end of the line.
Construction is well underway, and officials are expecting to open the next three stations in the extension: Jumeirah Golf Estates, Dubai Investment Park, and finally, Expo 2020. Although we aren’t too sure why we are still calling it Expo 2020 as it is already 2021, the full line should be operational and functional this year ahead of the opening of Dubai Expo. It is also worth pointing out that each station is beautifully designed, a work of art unto itself, with wings that surround you when you come into the station, and then help you take flight on your way from the station whether towards Expo or home.
RTA’s aim is to cater to the residential areas and provide a way for residents and tourist to be able to access Expo in a green and easy way. Customers will merely need to switch from the Green Line to the Red Line Extension at Jebel Ali and they will find themselves wandering through pavilions from around the world showcasing the best new inventions, and ideas and innovations that no one has ever seen.
But the first stop — getting this metro up and running.
