It’s a whole vibe at Bahrain’s latest pop-up restaurant, GLITCH, tucked away in the friendly neighborhood of Adilya in the heart of Manama. The brainchild of cousins Zainab AlEbrahim and Layla Sharaf of Creative Consultancy, and in partnership with Chef Khaled Alsaie – the brisket king of Bahrain – GLITCH has crashed onto the streets making loud, different, and insanely Instagrammable waves.
First of all, Glitch is red from head to toe, meaning most people aren’t sure what it is they’re walking into when they step inside. Loud music and neon signs, mixed with an almost gallery-type feel, add to the carefully created design that seems to scream out (or at least move to the rhythm of the DJ) in tandem with their one central theme: “It’s all in your head.”
What’s not in your head is how delicious Chef Khaled’s food is. He has taken common foods and created concepts and combinations of food we never would have paired together, but oh my goodness are we glad someone finally did. Green curry with brisket? Yes please. How about some waffles covered in brisket, mash, and sauce? Alhamdulillah.
However, it is the sponge cake – and we literally mean sponge cake, because its shape and color are reminiscent of an actual dish sponge – which has taken the TikTok world by storm. The dessert is served with sauce from a dish soap bottle by waiters wearing yellow rubber gloves.
GLITCH isn’t just a place for people to eat from a set menu – although that happens too – but it’s a place to be a part of something different, trendy, and cool, and to forget about what’s happening in the world (at least until lunch is over). It’s open on Saturdays and Sundays, but the pop-up will only be around for a couple more weekends, so if you happen to be in Bahrain, go enjoy some waffles and brisket — with a side of sponge.
