We’ve all heard about birthstones, but have you ever heard about personality pearls? Let’s backtrack. Did you know that black pearls exist? No, we don’t mean artificially-dyed pearls, but those found naturally in the depths of the ocean spun to perfection by an oyster. Born in the Polynesian lagoons, black pearls are not always black, but come in a range of hues — from black to grey to yellow and even brown. These unique pearls also feature five main undertones – pink, green, pistachio, blue, and magenta. We know; it’s mind-blowing.
While we might not understand how the unique Tahitian pearls – hosted by the ‘Pinctada Margaritifera’ oyster – come to be, there is one person who understands them better than anybody else in the world. Having dedicated 40 years of his life to grafting pearls in the Polynesian lagoons, jewelry designer Robert Wan has been aptly dubbed as the ‘Emperor of Pearls’.
In collaboration with Bijou Patisserie, Wan has launched an exclusive afternoon tea experience (‘Bijou de Perles’) with a French twist, where guests can enjoy a delectable selection of sweet and savory choux party bites served in a sophisticated jewelry box.
Put together by executive chef Pastry Chef Romain Castet, the menu is a mélange of local flavors combined with delicious desserts with Tahitian vanilla, mango passion, saffron cream, raspberry, and chocolate that will have you reaching for more. The fun hardly ends there. Served along with the jewelry box is an unbelievably realistic edible chocolate pearl necklace that will not only tickle your tastebuds, but also have you doubting your eyes for a moment or two.
The highlight of the experience, however, is the ‘Robert Wan Personality Test’, which guests can opt for to determine the pearl dedicated to their personality type. Guests can also purchase a gorgeous Robert Wan pearl bracelet as part of the ‘Bijou de Perles’ afternoon tea experience.
The ‘Bijou de Perles’ afternoon tea will run daily from 2pm to 6pm at the Sofitel Dubai the Obelisk Hotel. Click here to learn more.
