With Ramadan underway, most people are excitedly planning which iftars to try around town – but why should the sunset meal get all the love? The start of a fast can feel just as festive as the break of one, which is why Savoir Flair rounds up the top ten places to have suhoor in Dubai, each with a distinct personality of its own.

Traditional Affair

Antika, DIFC

The newly renovated outdoor terrace of DIFC’s chic and trendy fine-dining restaurant, Antika, may be the perfect place to kick back and relax after iftar and enjoy a traditional suhoor. It’s Levantine cuisine meets Arabian nights, with plush couches and low tables perfect for tasting of the à la carte menu, enjoying a little shisha under the stars, and taking in the gorgeous Dubai skyline. The suhoor menu features classic nibbles like foul, hummus, balila, feta, and more.

New Kid on the Block

Yava, Wasl 51

The gorgeous new cafe in Wasl 51, Yava, mixes the flavors of 21 mediterranean cuisines to create a menu that is bursting with culinary delicacies. During Ramadan, it is open daily from 12pm to 3am, and it’s the perfect location to kick back with your friends and enjoy a delicious suhoor. We might be in love with the decor, the ambience, the colors, and the artwork, but we love the food even more.

Drive-In Dining

CarsN' Karak, Grand Hyatt Dubai

The Grand Hyatt Dubai is hosting a creative new suhoor this year, in line with COVID standards and regulations. You may have heard of a drive-in movie before, but have you heard of drive-in dining? For suhoor, guests are invited to CarsN’ Karak, where they’ve paved paradise in a parking lot. You drive in, park, order, and the suhoor comes straight to your car door. There are tables and chairs for those wishing to sit outside, or if social distancing is more your thing, you can enjoy your suhoor from the comfort of your very own car.

Open 9pm to 2am

Change of Pace

Mosaico, Palazzo Versace

Located in the opulent lobby of the Palazzo Versace where even the furniture is fancy, Mosaico is serving up a suhoor to remember this year. With indoor and outdoor dining, guests can expect a variety of shisha flavors outdoors, and a delicious suhoor à la carte menu serving food until 4am. Our only advice? Don’t forget to dress to impress.

In the Garden

The Garden, Address Downtown

With views of The Burj Khalifa and Souk al Bahar, The Garden in Address Downtown is the ideal setting for a relaxing and enjoyable suhoor. The laidback, yet urban-chic atmosphere, with couches, tables, and garden lights strung throughout, set the stage for a night of talking and enjoying the company of your family and friends, and the à la carte suhoor menu is just as nice. Feel the midnight breeze and enjoy the sweet aromas floating by of the shisha. Iftar is served at sunset and suhoor starts at 10pm, but we literally could stay here all night long.

Journey Back

The Courtyard, Manzil Downtown

Manzil Downtown has mastered the art of Arabian hospitality, which is why its Mediterranean restaurant The Courtyard lands a spot on this list. It will be serving chef’s specials inspired by the legendary Silk Road, so expect to dine under the open sky on cuisines from Europe, Asia, and Africa.

A Taste of Italy

Gia, The Dubai Mall

A shakshouka-centric take on pizza, an antipasti platter featuring the likes of halloumi bruschetta, a classic Italian soup with a mix of white and red beans – Italy meets the Middle East at Gia in The Dubai Mall, where an à la carte menu will be served daily for suhoor. Oh, and we must insist that you linger long enough to indulge in dessert. The one to start with? That rather aptly named ‘La Dolce Vita’, which consists of a chocolate dome with saffron-cardamom sponge cake, pistachio ricotta cream, and fresh berries.

A Side of Art

Inked, Alserkal Avenue

Inked has brought about another cool collaboration with Dubai graffiti artist, eL Seed, and Hadrien Villedieu – also known as ‘@junkfoodman’ – to co-create a Tunisian-inspired burger known lovingly as ‘eL Tunsi’. Served up fresh at Inkognito in Alserkal Avenue, Inked’s incredible pop-up in Warehouse 66, the Ramadan special is a work of culinary art in and of itself and a must-try for a cool, artsy, different kind of suhoor.

Damascus Bound

Sah El Nom

Pop-culture references, elements of nostalgia, and a menu rife with dishes you won’t see anywhere else – enter: Sah El Nom, a cheery Syrian eatery that serves a truly refreshing take on Damascene cuisine. Suhoor at the Bluewaters Island outlet will entail both an à la carte and set menu, both of which will feature the restaurant’s greatest hits – think: ‘Lamb Manti’, ‘Chicken Harissa’, and ‘Udoli Dolma’.
