Unless you’ve been living under a rock this past month, chances are that you’ve heard – on countless occasions – about Barry’s Bootcamp opening in Dubai. If you’ve already turned down the offer of a 6 a.m. class with your girlfriends more times than you can remember from fear of what it might entail, it’s time you understood exactly what goes down during a Barry’s Bootcamp session.
Dark, dimly lit, and with a red glow – no, this isn’t hell we’re describing. It’s the inside of the room where you’ll be brought face to face with your own fitness demons. All jokes aside, it’s the perfect environment to really dig deep, push hard, and feel like you’re all alone in a full class.
Each session lasts approximately 60 minutes. It’s broken down into four ten- to twelve-minute segments, two of which will be spent on a treadmill and the other two performing floor exercises with weights. You’ll be alternating between the two types of workout, so if you start on the treadmill, your workout will look like this: treadmill, floor, treadmill, floor, stretch. You can also start on the floor and work the other way around, ending with a stretch by your treadmill.
The Treadmill Bit
Once you’re on the treadmill, an instructor will guide you through approximately ten minutes of high-intensity interval training. Using varying speeds and inclinations, you’ll push your body to the maximum. Be warned: this bit of the session is just as mental as it is physical. You’ll likely find yourself wanting to quit a number of times, but just when you think you’re about to, you’ll be instructed to turn the speed down and take a one-minute break.
The Floor Bit
Once on the floor, you’ll be told to grab a set of weights – lighter for women, and heavier for men. The next ten minutes will be spent performing a number of 30-second or one-minute exercises that will depend on what day of the week it is. Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays are full-body days. Mondays are focused on arms and abs, Tuesdays on your bum and legs, and Wednesdays on your chest, back, and abs. Thursdays are focused solely on abs.
The Double-Floor Class
If running is not for you, you’re recovering from an injury, or you’re just looking to tone more muscle, you can choose to remain on the floor for the entire session.
During a single Barry’s Bootcamp session, you can expect to burn up to 1,000 calories. The workout is designed to help you burn fat, release stress, and work your way to a leaner, harder body. No two classes will ever be the same, which means you’ll avoid hitting a plateau.
The best part of the whole workout is arguable grabbing a post-workout treat from the Fuel Bar. Using the best ingredients possible (think: organic protein powders and superfoods), the Barry’s Bootcamp team will whip up delicious smoothies and shakes that have been designed to help you get lean. You’ll also find some snack bars that’ll come in handy if you’re in a rush to get to work.
The changing rooms are bright and clean, and the towels are complimentary. You’ll even find hair ties, hair dryers, grooming products, and dirty-clothes bags to make your getaway as smooth as possible.
Barry’s Bootcamp Dubai offers two options. Your first option is to buy single classes or a package of five, ten, 25, or 50 classes. One class is priced at AED 120/SAR 123 and, the more classes in your package, the lower the price of the class – for instance, if you’re paying for 50 classes in one go, that price goes down to AED 100/SAR 102.
Option number two is to make the commitment of buying a monthly membership. You can choose one that allows you to attend anywhere between 12 and 30 classes per month – the latter drops the price of a class to as low as AED 59/SAR 60.
