Finding the right sunglasses to suit your face shape is possibly one of the hardest fashion obstacles to overcome in one’s life – second only to finding the perfect pair of jeans. Thankfully, Hugo Taylor and Charlie Morris, the designers behind “It” sunglasses brand Taylor Morris (and whom you might also recognize from British reality TV series Made in Chelsea), know a thing or two about choosing and caring for your next pair of shades.

What is the most important thing to keep in mind when picking a pair of glasses?
We always say to trust your instincts. Normally the first pair your eye goes to is the one you are drawn to. Having said that, it’s important to know what coloration works for your hair and skin tone

What frame would you recommend for each face shape?
If you have a more rounded face shape, opt for our ‘Voyager’ frame to add contrast. Oval faces require something angular. Our ‘Brunel’ or ‘Saratoga’ shapes are perfect for this, as they allow balance to the center of the face. Square faces tend to suit most sunglasses, but from our collection the ‘RollRight’ works best. Finally, heart-shaped faces require something with a peak or acute angle going upwards. The obvious choice here would be a ‘Chelsea CatsEye’ or ‘Invidia’.

What are your top tips for caring for your glasses?
Hugo Taylor: I am obsessive over this. I take so much pride in using the correct microfiber cloth for our lenses and always putting them back in their case. The more love you give a pair of glasses, the longer they will last.

What is the leading trend in eyewear this season?
It’s all about lenses that have a flat base curvature. Our new frame ‘Zero’ combines this with the other trend of small round frames. However, we at Taylor Morris don’t jump on every trend and instead follow our founding principle, which is to take classic frames shapes and give them an eccentric modernist twist!

What is the biggest faux pas related to glasses in your opinion?
The biggest faux pas in eyewear is wearing something because someone else told you it looked good on you. Glasses are an extension of yourself, and if you love them, then they look great!

Taylor Morris Eyewear is available at Harvey Nichols – Dubai, Mall of the Emirates.
