Describe the perfect button-down shirt.
You can never go wrong with a classic white button-down. Although these days I quite like adding a pussy bow or tie around my neck just to have a bit of fun and be on trend.
If you were given two minutes to dress up, how would you wear a shirt?
I bought an Acne Studios white button-down with a black pussy bow this summer. I’d probably throw that on with a pair of high-waisted jeans and my go-to Valentino tango pumps. Tada! I’d probably wear that even if I had way more than just two minutes to get ready.
How would you wear a shirt to an evening event?
I’d wear a classic white button-down with a statement skirt from the likes of Ellery. Another option would be to pair it with a nice evening suit and some statement earrings. The options are actually endless, but those would be my first two choices.
Can you count how many you own?
Yes. I believe and subscribe to the “highly edited wardrobe” school of thought. You don’t really need to own everything to be on trend. It really is about reworking items in your wardrobe and mixing and matching. I do own quite a few white shirts in different shapes and forms, but I find ways to style them differently each time I wear them. That’s where the fun and creativity comes in, I believe.
At the moment you’re working with Per Lei Couture as a guest buyer. Through this role, have you discovered any brands that make great button-down shirts?
Ellery, Tome, Wes Gordon, Derek Lam, and Adam Lippes are just some names that come to mind right away. These designers make beautiful classics season after season, and I can’t wait till Resort 2016 hits Per Lei Couture.
