This week, celebrated Lebanese designer and artist Nadine Kanso launched her latest collection, called ‘Shine’. The new creations from Bil Arabi are made up of Arabic letters and stars, which were created to capture the beauty of the night sky. Savoir Flair caught up with Kanso to discuss the new designs.
Mabrook on your new collection. How did the inspiration behind this collection first come to you?
I have always been inspired by the night sky and the abundance of stars that fill it up. I wanted to incorporate this into my jewelry, by creating a collection that would bring the stars to life and capture their seeming endlessness.
Is this a limited-edition collection?
It’s not limited; this is our latest collection for the season and has pieces that are dainty and others that are more in line with our long rings, which make more of a statement.
What materials did you use in this collection?
I’ve used 18-karat gold with diamonds, and we have around nine pieces that are made with stars in smoked topaz and citrine, as well as pink topaz.
What does the word “shine” mean to you?
Shining is about being romantic, about the beautiful nights spent looking at the sky and counting the stars while laying on the grass in Baalbek, my hometown in Lebanon. It’s about dreams…
Do you have a favorite piece from ‘Shine’?
I love the long rings with the stars in diamonds that are dipped in black rhodium. They are so cool and kind of rock ‘n’ roll!
