In the bustling, colorful markets of Spain, visitors are granted access to a wealth of delicious produce. This veritable feast for the eyes happened to catch Spain-based, Lebanese designer Dina Khalifé’s attention, resulting in her brilliantly patterned Fall/Winter 2015 collection, which, incidentally, is entitled ‘In the Market’.
“I was inspired by the colors and the sophisticated stands with exquisite fruits and vegetables,” Khalifé tells Savoir Flair exclusively. “The idea was to portray the jovial atmosphere and eye-catching details one experiences when visiting those spaces.” Indeed, one is instantly drawn to the energizing patterns that paint the canvas of her collection with illustrations of people in the marketplace, flowers, umbrellas, and more. “They are drawn and painted by hand,” Khalifé shares. Festive scenes decorate nearly every surface, from adorable culottes and loose peplum tops to perfectly tailored summer dresses and blouses featuring scarf attachments.
While Spain largely inspired the theme of the collection, Khalifé never strayed far from her heritage; “My work is definitely influenced by my Lebanese roots. The designs are bright and heart warming, like the people of Beirut. Spain and Lebanon have many things in common, and my work is influenced by both countries.”
Not only does this unique blend of cultures benefit Khalifé’s creative process, but it has also resulted in her stellar new Fall/Winter 2015 lookbook, which you can view by clicking through the gallery above.
Dina Khalifé will be available at Symphony, The Dubai Mall.
