Zayan Ghandour’s fashion career is the stuff dreams are made of. For over a decade, she has been a prominent fashion influencer in the Middle East who gives voice to evocative fashion narratives every season. After co-founding the wildly popular high-fashion boutique Sauce in 2004, Ghandour embarked on a career as a fashion designer with the launch of Zayan the Label in 2011.
For Fall/Winter 2015, she created ‘Let Me Dream My Love’, a luxurious disco-themed collection based on the style of 1970s “It” girls. “Marianne Faithfull is one of those girls,” she shares in an exclusive interview with Savoir Flair. “I found that [her lyrics] ‘let me dream my love’ resonate so beautifully with Zayan the Label in general.” For the brand’s Fall/Winter 2015 lookbook, Ghandour set the shoot in a surreal mirror maze. She explains her choice for the setting, stating, “I love mirror as a medium or backdrop. We were absolutely thrilled when we found this mirror maze, because it has that 70s feel that fits perfectly with the collection!”
The reflective background was an ideal complement to her flirty disco-chic dresses, which were decorated with colorful illustrations by Liselotte Watkins. When asked about her collaboration with the famed fashion illustrator, Ghandour gushes, “I’ve always been a fan of Liselotte’s work. I recently saw her work on the stairs of an exhibition for Scandinavian artists in Paris and that reignited my interest in her. We contacted her and luckily she was keen to work with us as well – and then the magic just happened! It was wonderful working with her. Each one of her girls has a distinct personality and character, her own story. The girls here represent the Zayan the Label girls for Fall/Winter 2015 and are wearing pieces from the collection! Lola is wearing our exclusive print of the season, the embroidered tulle, Marianne is wearing our fur coat, and Jasmine is wearing the sweater. Marianne is the super confident high-fashion girl, Lola is quirky and eccentric, and Jasmine is cool and sporty. The one thing they have in common is that they all love Zayan the Label!”
