Not only did Missoni go back to its roots as a brand, but it also went back to the “roots of humanity” with a tribally tinged collection for Spring/Summer 2016. Missoni’s activewear staples and signature zig-zag knits were modified for the modern era with ample silhouettes and plenty of street style attitude. While it was a colorful feast for the eyes, the collection was shockingly simple in nature, providing featherweight cover-ups, sporty slips, and breezy tunic dresses that varied between floor-sweeping lengths and calf-length cuts. Some of the best looks featured corded necklines that were reminiscent of Masai beaded neckpieces and graphic stripes that energized simple polo-neck tent dresses. The interplay of sheer, springy fabrics and exotic patterns turned sportswear into statement pieces that played well poolside. In fact, for the summer months, there are lots of Missoni bikinis and bathing suits to look forward to, covered in vibrant, enticing patterns. The simplicity of the line-up was rather shocking given Milan’s extravagant runway shows, but the functionality and optic verve of the collection could not be denied.
