Famed Syrian-born couturier Rami Al Ali has been creating dreamy couture collections since 2000, but it was only recently that he begun to explore the immense potential of ready-to-wear. In his third ready-to-wear collection to date, the influential Dubai-based designer applies his architectural eye to Spring/Summer 2016, and the results are beautiful.
In an exclusive interview with Savoir Flair, Al Ali shares, “I wanted to create elegant and very modern styles that reflect a relaxed, yet glamorous, approach to cocktail and eveningwear.” As such, the collection contains short cocktail dresses with front pleating that adds dimension to the silhouette, two-tone gowns that crackle with sequined embellishment, and sensual looks made from fitted lace and full, pleated skirts. Al Ali further describes the elements of his work, stating, “The collection includes layered waves of embroidery, creating a feeling of motion that visually makes a statement for the Rami Al Ali woman. A mix of organza layers, geometric textures, and beautiful silks along with a fusion of bold statement colors that are complemented with understated hues bring an overall contemporary freshness to the collection.” Al Ali’s soigné gowns and richly decorated cocktail dresses are both magnificently wearable and unbelievably beautiful – in the way that only a ready-to-wear collection designed by a couturier can be.
