Like Scandal’s famous protagonist Olivia Pope, Kerry Washington has a taste for the finer things in life. For the last ten years, the American beauty has been the brand ambassador of Movado, the Swiss watch company that opened its doors in 1881. As the face of the brand, Washington – and Ms. Pope – are rarely seen without the latest Movado design on their wrist. Here, Washington talks to Savoir Flair about fashion, watches, and her favorite piece of jewelry.

You’ve been working with Movado for over a decade. Can you tell us what it’s been like?
I am very proud to be a part of the Movado family, and I am so blessed that we have been in partnership for a decade. It is inspiring to work with a brand that is committed to both classic elegance and cutting-edge style.

What changes have you noticed in the world of watches in the past 10 years?
Movado has found a way to be extremely innovative with regards to design and technology, while also diving into the rich archives of their design heritage to create new timepieces with timeless resonance and classic beauty.

What is it about Movado that you connect with?
Most people have a story connected to their Movado watch. I love to hear those stories, to hear how that watch came into their life. They are very special objects of luxury that represent pride and accomplishment in the hearts of their owners.

We know that Olivia Pope’s favorite Movado timepiece is the ‘Concerto’, but what style is your absolute favorite, and why?
Watches are such spectacular accessories. I love to be able to have very different watches for different moods and style aesthetics. For example, for day I love my rose-gold ‘Bold’, but for night I adore my gold ‘Museum’ wrap watch.

In three words, how would you describe the Movado woman?
Smart, elegant, relevant.

Can you tell us about the most sentimental piece of jewelry you own and the story behind it?
My wedding bands; I love everything about them.

Do you have any quirky jewelry habits or pieces that you wear everyday?
Usually when I’m on set filming, I safety-pin my wedding bands to my undergarments so that they are always close to me and hard to misplace!

What’s one accessory you absolutely cannot live without?
A smile.

What’s the best fashion advice you’ve ever received?
Make sure you love it. That is much more important than what anyone else may think.

Who has been the biggest style influence in your life? What have you learned from them?
I am constantly learning… I love fashion. I love to watch shows and absorb as much understanding and inspiration as possible.

What’s your favorite time of day, and time of year?
I love the early morning, and I love the spring.

What is your Thursday-night ritual?
Tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet.

What are your favorite TV shows?
I love Game of Thrones and Super Soul Sunday [on the Oprah Winfrey Network].

Do you have any guilty pleasure TV shows that you indulge in?
Why waste time feeling guilty?! I love what I watch.

In your storybook ending, does Olivia get Vermont with Fitz or the sun with Jake?
That is a question for Shonda Rhimes! But I am just as curious as you are!

Movado timepieces are available at Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons.
