In the Middle East, a new crop of designers on the come-up is shaking up tradition with cool, unisex streetwear that puts a contemporary spin on 90s style. Yasmeen Al-Naif of JuniorsBeJunior is part of that pack, with an effortlessly cool sense of style born of an authentic love of the 90s. “Everything about the 90s is cool to me,” she shares with Savoir Flair. “The music, people’s attitudes, TV shows, but the clothes especially. They were oversized, comfortable, and high-waisted, and today they really fit into the “street” vibe.”
Enter: Lina Mustafa, Hannah Rasekh, and Alina and Aamna Mani, four women who are helping support a more urban, youthful direction in regional fashion. This #girlgang also happen to be at the center of JuniorsBeJunior’s hip new lookbook, which was shot around the poolside cabanas of Vida Downtown Dubai. When asked about her choice of faces, Al Naif explains, “They are a group of strong girls, who I personally get along with very well. They have different backgrounds, careers, and personalities that shine through this shoot and really complement the JBJ clothing. They have unique looks and distinct style, which made dressing them in JBJ interesting, because they styled the pieces so differently.”
