The exquisite elegance and mystique of Egyptian interiors and a love for vintage style have clearly influenced the work of Maha Abdul Rasheed — you can read it all over her forthcoming Fall/Winter 2015 collection for Bambah. In her sophomore collection for the brand, Rasheed turns to the rose garden of the Cataract Hotel in Aswan, Egypt, and makes use of its buds for a blossoming print on gorgeous gala-worthy gowns. “I stayed in the Cataract Hotel when I was in Egypt a few months ago. The hotel is 102 years old! I was fascinated with the furniture and the use of colors – it felt very poetic and grand. I could just picture the King and Queen of Egypt walking down the lobby. More importantly, it had a gorgeous rose garden that was just too beautiful to ignore! I think it triggered my inspiration for this collection,” the designer shares in an exclusive interview with Savoir Flair.
On what patrons can expect to find in her collection this season, Rasheed explains, “With an addition of high-waist trousers and culottes, the collection has expanded to include elegant daywear looks that can be teamed with shirts for an alternative styling attitude. It’s also a look that can take you from day to night, suitable for today’s fast-paced lifestyle.”
The collection’s video lookbook matches its romantic mood beautifully, and is imbued with a vintage Hollywood feel. “The video was shot using pure Egyptian talent,” she shares. “It’s very old-school Hollywood glamor. I believe it’s the perfect portrayal of Maha and the new Bambah for Fall/Winter 2015.”
