The splendor of Mohammed Ashi’s work is signified by his balance of volumes, and this time they alternated between expanded widths and form-fitting lengths. The Ashi Studio Fall/Winter 2015 collection is a jaw-dropping foray into couture-level detail work, as the Lebanese designer deftly folded and draped luxurious fabrics into gravity-defying ruffle cascades and sensationally draped ruching. The collection’s range of dimensionality is exquisite, starting with a padded dresses that pushes the width of an oversized topcoat to its outer limits. Much to our delight, Ashi expertly sculpted incredible shapes out of stiff silks, and one cape-topped version sent shivers of delight down our spine. When gleaming gowns weren’t sporting gilled ruffles, they were tailored on the bias, adding a body-conscious, flattering look into the mix. Imagine entering a room in one of his dramatic gowns and the thrill of conversations ceasing in amazement — this is the kind of effect Ashi renders with his jaw-dropping creations for Fall/Winter 2015.
