High-jewelry brand Mouawad is internationally renowned for its craftsmanship and historic expertise, but for some it may ring more bells as the creator of the decadent Victoria’s Secret ‘Fantasy Bra’. Last year was the first time any jeweler had designed two bras for the highly anticipated show, and the one-of-a-kind lingerie pieces, valued at over 7.4 million dirhams each, were worn by supermodels Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrioso.
What many may not know is that the brand was first established in 1890, and is currently run by fourth-generation co-guardians – namely Fred, Alain, and Pascal Mouawad, who are of Lebanese origin. With its head office based in Los Angeles, California, the brand has become Hollywood’s go-to jeweler for red-carpet events and counts celebrities the likes of Heidi Klum, Jennifer Lopez, and Mariah Carey amongst its cult following.
Savoir Flair was offered exclusive access into the Mouawad workshop for an intimate look at its latest high-jewelry creation, the ‘Burmese Fire and Ice Wave’ necklace. At the center of the masterpiece sits an incredible 25.28-carat oval Burmese ruby, surrounded by a cascade of invisibly set princess-cut diamonds, intended to mimic a glacial design.
