For most working women, the morning doesn’t really begin before that much-needed, tall cup of coffee. For Emirati jewelry designer Shamsa Alabbar, her kick-starting drink of choice is karak tea. “It’s a must in the morning,” she tells Savoir Flair. After enjoying her morning ritual, the designer heads to her Dubai factory for a visit, which she says is her favorite part of the day. “I never miss family lunch at 1:30 p.m., and my days are usually packed with back-to-back meetings regarding upcoming event preparation,” she adds.
As the founder and designer of Alabbar Designs – a fine jewelry brand that is recognized for its contemporary, edgy take on Arabic calligraphy – Alabbar says she looks for inspiration in unconventional places. “I love the saying ‘Beauty is in the eye of the beholder’, and I always believe that beauty can be found in things that we usually overlook and don’t pay attention to. I always keep my eyes open for inspiration and beauty all around me.” On the subject of her latest collection, Alabbar explains, “It was inspired by the contemporary Arab woman. She is modern and minimal, but she still embraces her Arab roots and traditions.”
