Speaking exclusively to Savoir Flair, Shaikha Noor Al Khalifa and Shaikha Haya Al Khalifa, the design duo behind Bahraini label Noon by Noor, shared the influences that inspired their forthcoming Pre-Fall 2015 collection. Noon by Noor has been lighting up the fashion industry since it first debuted at New York Fashion Week in 2012, making it the first GCC brand to be invited to present on schedule. Since its auspicious inaugural collection, Noon by Noor has been recognized as a break-out brand and supported by stars like Coco Rocha, Blake Lively, Katy Perry, and Olivia Palermo. One glance at the Pre-Fall 2015 lookbook and you’ll see why Noon by Noor is raking in accolades across the industry.
“For Pre-Fall 2015, our vision was to create a minimalist aesthetic with clean outlines, streamlined silhouettes, and masculine tailoring. We wanted to pare things back and focus on strong shapes and simplicity,” Shaikha Noor shared. Previous collections from Noon by Noor have showcased impressive color palettes and embellishment details and prints, but the scaled-back looks for Pre-Fall 2015 evolved the brand’s enticing signatures. “We still worked in our signature prints and embellishments, creating texture and character,” stated Shaikha Haya. “The water flower print is feminine and romantic, whilst black-and-white stripes have a modern touch. Embellishments range from tone-on-tone beading to multi-colored appliqués and wet-look sequined stripes.”
Brought into focus, these details place exquisite finishing touches on a calm, self-assured collection comprised of harmonious parts. Balance is everything, and Shaikha Noor and Shaikha Haya struck an accord between the masculine and the feminine by relying on structured cuts. Meanwhile, lightness and heaviness were represented on looks by the interplay of soft fabrics, like cotton and silk blends, with denser materials, like neoprene and foulard jacquard. A mostly monochrome palette lent versatility to the tailored separates and tomboyish jackets of the collection, and transformed models into the kind of effortlessly cool girls that inspire envy.
“There is a relaxed feel to the collection, highlighted by the embellished sweat tops, sporty jogger pants, and graphic stripes. Masculine outerwear and sharp tailoring are offset by feminine details, such as the floral clusters and detachable embellished collars,” said Shaikha Noor. These elements can all be seen on the Noon by Noor mood board, which featured monochrome sketches and swatches surrounded by maximal floral appliqués.
