If there’s anything one learns by working in fashion it’s that inspiration can be found in the grandest, the simplest, the most obscure, and the most unlikely of things. It can be found in things, in people, or – in the case of young Omani-based fashion brand Endemage – in places. For Spring/Summer 2015, sisters Lubna and Nadia Al Zakwani developed the cultural influence and majestic scenery of Zanzibar to create a beautiful ready-to-wear collection. Discussing the inspiration behind their latest work with Savoir Flair, they shared, “SS15 was inspired by the tropical scene of Zanzibar, an island that used to be a part of Oman and has marked a strong influence in the Omani culture.” It was after a visit to Africa last year that their love for the region’s beauty was born, and Zanzibarsoon became the focus of their Spring/Summer 2015 collection. “We designed soft, flowy silhouettes and shades of white lilac and teal to compliment the laidback lifestyle of the country,” they explained.
Since it launched in 2010, the Endemage brand has been very conscious of intertwining its Omani identity with high-fashion concepts, and for this collection the Al Zakwani sisters introduced a new design embroidery that was incorporated onto custom-made fabrics. The result is a harmonious marriage between tradition (in the form of long, flowing garments), tropical softness (by way of a delicate palette and luscious embroidery), and contemporary silhouettes (in the shape of waterfall ruffles, lampshade bodices, and tailored separates).
