“Accessories are a great way to express one’s own sense of style,” Sarah Beydoun, founder of Sarah’s Bag, tells Savoir Flair. With the right accessories, an entire ensemble can be transformed in an instant. The popular brand’s ‘The Fast and The Fabulous’ collection is made up of just that – accessories that elevate the simplest outfit in a flash. For Resort 2015, the Beirut-based label continued the coveted vintage automobile themed pieces, which first made their debut in January for Spring/Summer 2014.
An exciting feature to this capsule is a newly introduced technique, which Beydoun says is “a type of tight, dense beading with shiny glass beads, that gives the bags a really polished look and showcases the handiwork of our artisans, who work anywhere between 10 and 25 hours on each bag.”
The latest collection features colorful, flame-embroidered clutches and printed images of the beautiful Lebanese coastline bags, which were inspired by a pre-war torn Beirut. “The collection’s signature feature, other than its gorgeous handiwork and beading on canvas, is that every piece has a vintage 1970s toy car as a clasp,” reveals Beydoun.
Using vintage Matchbox toy cars from the 1970s and 1980s, the unique clutches are limited in number. “Our hunt started at the Marché aux Puces in Paris, and from there we diligently picked our way through our fair share of vintage and flea markets to find toy cars that are specifically from the 70s and 80s; basically the cars we played with as kids. The ‘Fast and Fabulous’ is made up of limited edition pieces because we were dependent upon the number of vintage toy cars we were able to find.”
