For Spring 2015, Karl Lagerfeld made one thing loud and clear: feminism is feminine. When commenting on the collection, the designer said, “They’re all pieces everyone can play with. No ’60s, no ’70s, no whatever, more mode de vie than mode.” Historic eras were incorporated into each accessories look, with flower patterns and appliqués, touches of tweed, peace signs, military-inspired bags, denim patchwork, and motivating slogans such as “feministe mais feminine” (feminist but feminine) and “make fashion not war” emblazoned on clutches and shoulder bags. Menswear-inspired flats were given ladylike touches with metallic hardware and ankle straps. Lagerfeld introduced a new ‘Girl’ bag, cleverly demonstrating his point that women do matter. Epically ending the show with an army of models marching to Chaka Khan’s “I’m Every Woman”, Lagerfeld’s spring collection truly celebrated women in all their glory.
