For Spring/Summer 2015, Roksanda Ilincic not only proves that she is a master of geometry, but that she is a master colorist as well. Her wonderful springtime palette of blush pink, sky blue, orange, black and royal blue – which are at times mixed together in surprising combinations – adds a palpable energy to proceedings.
The show begins with warm, friendly color-blocked sweaters, lean shift dresses, and fit-and-flare frocks, which are daring in their simplicity. The curving shapes that decorate early looks are elevated to new forms with undulating overlays that added dimensionality to her smooth dresses. Ilincic’s signature color-blocking is more subtle this time around, and leaves a minimalist impression in the form of contrast lapels, cuffs and collars. Sleek modernism soon gives way to more elegant looks for evening, with jagged multi-colored prints electrifying Ilincic’s modest dresses, and squiggly embroidery adding a dash of abstraction to closing skirts and gowns. Informed by spherical geometry, long fluid lines and a relaxed silhouette, Ilincic’s cool girl collection is an invigorating story for spring.
