With names known for their sexy, sleek style, like Anthony Vaccarello (for Versus Versace) and Joseph Altuzarra, on the New York Fashion Week line-up, it might be difficult to get a word in edgewise. Except if you’re Lebanese designer Reem Acra, who confronted the fashion establishment with the season’s most sizzling Spring/Summer 2015 collection. Acra’s provocative presentation was achieved with body-conscious silhouettes, sheer fabrics, and revealing cuts, which were then saturated in sparkling sequins and metallic beading.
The show began with a series of pretty frocks that featured cutout details on strapless bodices and tiered layers comprised of alternating strips of silk, sheer, and sequins. Delicate looks were crafted from fitted silk with matching cardigans before giving way to a portion that sold sensuality in shimmering excess. Acra cut sheer florals and gleaming silks into thin strips and wrapped them sinuously around the body for results that left little to the imagination. The effect was astonishing, but difficult to envision on anyone without a model-perfect body. One-shoulder dresses and strapless maxis were easier to pull off for evening, and her finale of red carpet-worthy gowns truly dazzled. It’s hard to bank on a collection that requires six months of Pilates in order to wear it, but for the genetically gifted socialites, celebrities, and stylists who love Reem Acra, Spring/Summer 2015 contains many tempting looks.
