“New York City is the world in one place,” Donna Karan explained to Savoir Flair backstage at her Spring/Summer 2015 show.

With the theme of “New York nation” at the essence of her collection, the designer used a palette of vibrant colors, from blazing red to cabana blue to paradise green, as well as a variation of design techniques, from bold beading to laser prints and cuts, to emulate the mix-and-match diversity of New York City.

“Multicolored, multicultural, multitasking – like a unique, global city of neighborhoods, DKNY is where it all comes together,” explained the show notes. From choker necklaces to mesh oversized hooded parkas, multicolored striped knit mini skirts, and crêpe sequin-embellished V-neck tops, the collection did indeed have a bit of everything, just like the city in which the show took place.

Despite Karan’s message that anything can be chic, the collection’s strongest moments were when simple met street, like the blazing-red, double-faced mesh, box-pleated dress with cutouts and the look that combined a sequin-embellished white top with a full skirt and white leather high tops.
