Savoir Flair can now exclusively reveal that the first season of Fashion Week Middle East will take place from October 1 to October 4 in Dubai’s DIFC. The launch will take place at the Fashion Week Middle East inaugural ball on September 30, 2014. Organized by English Strickland & Associates, a services company that focuses on creative strategic ideas and project planning for its clients, the Fashion Week will showcase a mixture of international and regional designers. While regional talent will only represent 30 percent of designers taking part this October, the aim of Fashion Week Middle East is for that share to eventually become the majority. Notable international designers that will be showing this season include Charlotte Ronson and Betsey Johnson, with Cameron Silver of LA store Decades as the event’s guest of honor.
Fashion Week Middle East will also run an exchange program with New York Fashion Week and Los Angeles Fashion Week, whereby it will secure the appearance of two regional designers on the official calendar of one of the two cities. Organizer Stephanie English Strickland told Savoir Flair exclusively, “The only way it’s going to work for regional designers is if they are legitimized abroad. This is not just about having a show here.”
