This year, Longchamp celebrates a milestone – it is the 20th anniversary of its most successful handbag, ‘Le Pliage®’. The now iconic accessory, inspired by the art of Japanese origami, was named after the French verb ‘to fold’, due to its inimitable design. When folded in the right places, the bag is reduced to the size of a paperback book. Thanks to its malleability and luxe quality, it has become one of the world’s favorite bags – since its launch in 1993, over 30 million bags have been sold, which means somewhere in the world, 10 Le Pliage® handbags are sold every minute.

The luxury tote made its debut in a durable nylon canvas material, trimmed with Russian leather, and in 2012, Longchamp created a plush leather version of the signature design, ‘Le Pliage® Cuir’. This updated bag is made from ultra soft and supple leather, retaining the ability to collapse in the same way as the nylon original, and leaving no creases when opened. Throughout its 20-year history, Le Pliage® has been revamped every season in 12 different colors. Over the years, Le Pliage® has produced limited editions, through collaborations with renowned artists and designers the likes of Jeremy Scott, Mary Katrantzou, and Tracey Emin, as well as in exotic materials such as python. All of the designs, raw materials, and creation processes are sourced and carefully prepared in France, using the most skilled craftsmanship.

Most recently, Longchamp launched ‘Le Pliage Cuir® Personalized’, a bespoke service for customers to create their own versions of the signature bag, down to every last detail.

This new tailor-made service is exclusively available at three of the brand’s boutiques in the Middle East: Mall of the Emirates in Dubai, Galleria in Abu Dhabi, and The Avenues in Kuwait
