7 Days of Chic: Reema Al Banna
21 OPEN GALLERY

Reema Al Banna, better known as the talented designer behind Reemami, shares seven days’ worth of outfits for both inspiration and an insight into her personal style. When Al Banna was in high school, she encountered strict uniform codes that abbreviated her desire to express herself through fashion. During university, she began to develop her sense of style by experimenting with clothes that were radical, strange, and unique. Traces of this can be found in her wardrobe today, as Al Banna continues to approach clothing with a sense of fearlessness. In our 7 Days of Chic feature, we traverse a diverse terrain that demonstrates Al Banna’s ability to adapt casual style, like denim on denim, with a bold, modern sense of color and proportion. In addition to our gallery of style, we also talked to the designer about her sartorial choices, her passion for her craft, and her favorite places to shop.

When and how did you find your personal style?
We used to wear a uniform in high school, so it didn’t really give us a chance to experiment. As a result, my personal style only started to emerge during university days. Growing up, I always kept an eye out while shopping for items that were weird, funky, and unusual, and this hasn’t changed much. I was always very daring; I would put on the boldest outfit, not look twice in the mirror, and leave the house.

Has your style changed over the years? How has it evolved?
It matured, became cooler, and my outfits became more confident. I like to mix things that I would have never thought would go together six years ago. Nowadays, I know what works and what doesn’t. I never keep items in my closet untouched; I wear everything that I own.

How would you describe your personal style in three words?
Expressive, eclectic, moody.

Most designers have a ‘uniform’. What would you say is your signature outfit?
My uniform for work would be something comfortable, like loose, pajama pants and flowing skirts or dresses.

What inspires you to put on a fabulous outfit?
The access to all my samples. I basically live in Reemami, and always try to work my outfits around my pieces.

Where do you generally like to shop?
Ever since I started my own brand in 2009, I mostly shop for shoes, bags, and basics. In terms of clothes, I like to create what I want or need.

What are the labels you currently love?
Gianvitto Rossi, Altuzarra, and Kenzo.

What was the first thing of value you ever bought that you still own?
A Balenciaga bag.

Are there any fashion items that you collect?
I collect shoes, funky vintage shirts, bomber jackets, and vintage in general.

Are you a bag person or a shoe person?
I like my bags and shoes equally.

Is there anything you once thought you’d never wear and now do?
Leather pants.

I never walk out of the house without…
Optional heels, an optional outfit in case something pops up or I need to dress down, my workout gear, my laptop, my sketchbook, and my flats. I’m always fully equipped.

You can never have too many…
White shirts, shoes, dresses, and pants.

Who influences your style?
I love keeping an eye on the street style scene and runways during Fashion Weeks.
