The collection, the set, the star-studded front row – when Chanel decides to outdo itself, it pulls no punches. For Fall/Winter 2014, Karl Lagerfeld transformed the Grand Palais into a Chanel supermarket, featuring over 500 Chanel-stamped products – a fact that left attendees in utter amazement. There were aspects of the show that appealed to everyone, as Alicia Vikander pointed out, with references to the street style youth movement, a throwback to punk rebellion, and a sophisticated slew of offerings for the classic crowd. Rihanna connected instantly with the collection, especially the looks that were “fun and young”. She gushed about the silhouettes, the layering, and the colors, and pronounced it all “brilliant” and “very me”. Likewise, Elisa Sednaoui was seduced by the spectacle, stating, “I like the element of the superwoman and supermom who does it all herself, but is always elegant while doing it.” Keira Knightley, the face of Coco Mademoiselle and longtime Chanel acolyte, gushed over Lagerfeld’s brilliance, concluding, “I don’t know how he does it.” We don’t either, but we look forward to being surprised by his genius every single season.
