When it comes to seasonal campaigns, few can contest the artistic direction at Dior. Designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri, the brand’s Fall/Winter 2022 collection celebrates ‘The Next Era’ – which is also a modern take on Christian Dior’s ‘New Look’ from 1947.
The emblematic bar jacket for this season is a juxtaposition of aesthetics and technology. In partnership with an Italian startup D-Air Lab, Dior created climate-sensitive technical inserts – a jacket designed to warm up the body when the temperature drops and vice versa. Leather jackets were given the sporty treatment with elements drawing from motorcycle protective gear. Elsewhere, Dior icons such the ‘Dior Bobby’, ‘Lady Dior’, and ‘Lady D-Joy’ are reimagined with a contemporary lens and showcase the meticulous craftsmanship from the ateliers.
For the campaign, photographer Brigitte Niedermair took inspiration from female portraits painted between the 16th and 19th centuries. Taking on various persona of iconic women from bygone eras, the models showcased the collection against subtle yet sleek surroundings. The striking photographs were shot against a deep-red backdrop on a set that is reminiscent of an art gallery, and the result was nothing less than a work of art. The images are a more than a fashion campaign; they are a reflection of power, strength, and passion and are an ode to Dior’s forward-thinking approach.
