Earlier this week, Gucci staged a magnificent show – the Gucci ‘Love Parade’ – on Los Angeles’ iconic Hollywood Boulevard. The enthralling presentation – which not only saw Hollywood A-listers seated in the front row but also had the likes of Jared Leto, Macaulay Culkin, Miranda July, and Jodie Turner-Smith walk the runway – oozed old-Hollywood glamour.

Growing up in the outskirts of Rome, Gucci’s Creative Director Alessandro Michele often found himself absorbed in the glitzy tales of Hollywood as narrated by his mother, who worked as an assistant in a production company. As a young boy, Hollywood was to Michele a bright shining star amidst an otherwise gray world – nine letters dripping with desire.

“I remember all the stories she told me, and the details and the sparkles, about that dream factory. There was the alabaster paleness of Marilyn Monroe and her diaphanous voice. There were the black satin gloves of Rita Hayworth and Veronica Lake’s velvet hair, as well as the bewitching allure of Rock Hudson and Kim Novak’s dizzying transformative power. Everything felt like a fairy tale,” says Michele.

These Hollywood icons were omnipresent throughout Michelle’s Gucci ‘Love Parade’ collection, inspired by the Creative Director’s mother and her priceless legacy. Marilyn Monroe’s dramatic allure was brought to life with black satin gloves that came paired with a gold, plunged-neck dress. We also spotted an impressive lace-up version of the gloves teamed with a stunning powder pink slip and tiara on Tess McMillan, echoing Sissy Spacek’s prom look from Carrie.

While Phoebe Bridgers walked in a long silk jacket, snakeskin boots, a gold briefcase, lace gloves, and a Jackie Kennedy-esque pillbox hat, Jodie Turner-Smith donned what can easily be identified as one of the most eye-catching looks from the collection – a saturated orange and green feathered number. Leto was spotted on the runway in a gray blazer and white lace-up pants, teamed with white boots.

Populated with exquisite velvet and satin suit sets and dazzling sequin embellished gowns complete with intricate feather trims, the 115-look Gucci ‘Love Parade’ collection journeyed us back to the charismatic bygone era of Hollywood.
