Nineties trends have been ruling both the fashion and the beauty departments for well over a couple of seasons, and evidently, they refuse to go away. While face-framing fringes and half-up, half-down hairdos are keeping their presence alive in the beauty world, chunky loafers are dominating the footwear realm. After bulky ‘Dad’ sneakers vanished off our Instagram feeds, it was only a matter of time before thick-soled footwear re-emerged on the runways, and that they have.
Lyst reported a 34% increase in searches for “heavy” and “chunky” boots since the onset of fall. While Noughties trends are taking over the clothing realm, the 90s aesthetic is holding ground in the world of shoes. Chunky shoe styles – like heavy sneakers, boots, and platform heels – have cemented their position on the trend charts over the past few seasons. The resurgence of yet another bulky style then comes as no surprise.
Italian luxury giant Prada, in particular, is at the forefront of the trend, with the fashion crowd stomping around in its bulky triangle logo-stamped loafers. Prada is, however, hardly the only luxury label getting behind the chunky loafer trend. While Instagram “It” girls can’t get over the Prada shoes, Gucci platform loafers are massively popular among TikTok users. We even spotted covetable Louis Vuitton monogrammed chunky loafers making chic appearances on Instagram. Monograms and logos aside, luxury maisons are adorning chunky loafers with crystal and chainlink embellishments and dipping them in different hues to make a statement.
