Last night, the most famous faces from pop culture made their way to the Metropolitan Museum in New York to celebrate fashion’s biggest night out – the 2021 Met Gala. After being canceled in 2020 and moved from its usual date in May this year, we naturally couldn’t wait to experience the over-the-top red carpet spectacle that the Met Gala serves. Throughout history, the Met Gala red carpet has delivered some of the most unforgettable, jaw-dropping celebrity moments.

Who can forget Lady Gaga‘s mind-blowing performance on the 2019 Met Gala red carpet, where she pulled off not one but four outfit changes? Or Zendaya‘s enchanting Cinderella moment, complete with a fairy godmother, a magic wand, and a light-up ball gown? Both Gaga and Zendaya, along with other Met Gala regulars like Beyoncé and Kylie Jenner, were absent this year. But a few prominent faces weren’t the only thing amiss from the 2021 Met Gala red carpet.

As the who’s who of Hollywood and fashion climbed the historic museum steps, one thing was evident: the 2021 Met Gala red carpet wasn’t the usual mind-boggling artistic extravaganza that we’ve grown to expect. In fact, if we are honest, the sartorial presentation at the 2021 Met Gala was a bit bland. Don’t get us wrong; there were plenty of couture-dipped celebrity appearances. (We’re looking at you, Kendall).

Kendall Jenner looked ethereal in a see-through embellished Givenchy gown – a stunning homage to Audrey Hepburn. Jenner climbed the museum steps holding hands with best friend Gigi Hadid, who attended the event in a monochrome Prada gown with a sexy thigh-high slit. But it was supermodel Iman‘s otherworldly ensemble that brought the buzzing red carpet to a head-turning halt. Inspired by the age of American ballroom culture, Iman wore a golden brocade jumpsuit complete with a bespoke tiered feather overskirt and a magnificent headpiece by designer Harris Reed

Thirsty for some sartorial extravaganza? We’ve rounded up the best celebrity outfits from the 2021 Met Gala red carpet.
