The color-blocking trend made a huge comeback last year, and judging from our Instagram feeds, it’s undoubtedly here to stay. Don’t believe us? Even The Queen agrees. Not only is the fashion crowd flaunting the color-blocking trend, but even Her Majesty was seen sporting an elegant two-toned red-and-purple dress earlier this year.

While color-blocking – when done right – can make a fabulous ensemble, you don’t want to get caught wearing it wrong. So how exactly do you wear the color-blocking trend? While “It” girls make it look effortless, color-blocking is tricky, to say the least. To make styling the trend easier, we’ve broken it down into all the different ways you can wear it.

Scroll down to discover Savoir Flair’s guide to wearing the color-blocking trend in 2021.

Sorbet Shades

Contrary to popular belief, color-blocking doesn’t mean you go all out and wrap yourself in striking shades. Color-blocking can also be accomplished by placing pastel shades against each other. We particularly love this color-blocked pastel look with a hint of poppy yellow by influencer Leonie Hanne.

Two-Toned Pieces

Last summer, two-toned pants were a massive hit among “It” girls. The trend has now taken roots, and two-toned tops, swimsuits, and even blazers are enjoying tremendous popularity. If you’re feeling unsure about combining pieces from your own wardrobe to create a color-blocked look, dual-toned pieces are the way to go.

Color-Blocked Swimwear

Color-blocking has successfully spilled into the swimwear world this season. The two-toned style has quickly become one of the biggest swimwear trends of Spring/Summer 2021. Now, there are several ways to go about the trend when it comes to swimwear. You can either opt for a dual-toned bathing suit, or stir things up by mixing your bikini tops and bottoms to create a color-blocked look. Alternatively, you can pair your solid-colored swimsuit with a contrasting cover-up or kaftan to rock a color-blocked look by the beach or the pool.

Cool Hues

Another way to go about the color-blocking trend is by matching soothing shades of blues and greens with each other.

Bold Accessories

Accessories dipped in a vivid-colored dye are a great way to color-block an otherwise monochromatic ensemble. If you’re feeling brave, you can opt for the color of the season – neon green – and nail two trends in one look.
