There is a certain natural progression to all things in life, including fashion. It goes without saying that the first few years of a designer’s career – if not its entirety – will be filled with struggle. Ayah Tabari, however, seems to have bypassed much of this progression with designs that have catapulted her to regional fame and into the wardrobes of regional socialites, fashion luminaries, and VIPs as early as her first season. Her line, Mochi, is named after a chain stitch and celebrates the ancient art of embroidery, drawing inspiration from a different culture for each collection. Now in her second season, Tabari turns east again, setting her sights on Thailand.
In signature Mochi style, the garments are multi-colored, but they vary in silhouette and pattern. This season’s collection offers a wider selection of options, from the ‘Jaipur’ collection’s fun and youthful crop-top-and-skirt combos to the more grown-up silhouette of pencil skirts and below-the-knee skirts. Open-back dresses offer a refreshing eveningwear option if you’ve exhausted your LBDs, while tailored jackets are the perfect mix-and-match staple for mild GCC winters.
