When sisters Nadia and Lubna Al Zakwani first launched Endemage, which means the “merging of two” in their native Omani tongue, they focused on abayas and more traditional Middle Eastern fare, but they’ve come a very long way since then. The duo’s ninth collection, and their second successful stab at ready-to-wear separates, showed at Fashion Forward Season 2 to much acclaim. Staying true to their origins, the Al Zakwani sisters concentrated on softening the rigidity of modest and traditional Middle Eastern wear and freshening it with contemporary appeal.
For Spring/Summer 2014, the silhouette is more Western than in previous seasons, with crop tops and tailored trousers featuring heavily. Inspired by the pearls of the Arabian Gulf, sheer overlays and dresses shimmer with luminescent shine. Recalling the mashrabiya pattern from Spring/Summer 2013, geometric accents transmit a modern mood all the while evoking traditional Omani embroidery and Islamic prints.
