Lily Collins has lots of reasons to celebrate right now. Not only has the British actor become engaged to boyfriend Charlie McDowell (the writer-director proposed while the pair were holidaying in New Mexico), but her hotly-anticipated new TV series launches on October 2.
The 31-year-old plays the titular role in Emily in Paris, a comedy-drama that follows the story of a young American woman who relocates to the French capital for a job opportunity at a marketing firm.
Created by Darren Star, the man behind Sex and the City, and filmed before the pandemic, it looks like perfect fall viewing, bringing us glorious Parisian cityscapes, fish-out-of-water laughs, and some truly fabulous outfits. Given Collins always impresses with her fashion choices – especially when it comes to high-profile events – we can’t wait to see how Emily’s on-screen wardrobe compares.
Ahead of the series launch, we look back at some of Collins’ most stylish red-carpet appearances.

British Fashion Awards, 2012
With her porcelain skin and dark hair, Collins always looks amazing in a sleek black gown but knows how to make a plain dress edgy with the right make-up and accessories. At the British Fashion Awards in 2012, she teamed a black Mulberry column dress with a cool dangly ear cuff and berry-toned lip for a goth-glam look.
Love, Rosie Premiere, 2014
On the other hand, Collins can totally pull off a pillar box red frock, as she did with this Solace London gown with a cutout back at the premiere of Love, Rosie in 2014.
Met Gala, 2017
While some starlets play it safe at the Met Gala, Collins never fails to go all-out at the biggest night on the fashion calendar. In 2017, when many celebs struggled with the Comme des Garcons/Rei Kawakubo theme, the actor nailed it with a voluminous pink goth-princess gown by Giambattista Valli, which she topped with a blunt black bob wig and black cherry lips.
Baftas, 2019
In the last couple of years, Collins has really found her feet in terms of red-carpet dressing and isn’t afraid to take risks with what she wears. At the 2019 Baftas, the actor donned a royal blue lace-skirted Givenchy gown which came with a cool cropped jacket – a fashion-forward look that totally paid off.
Met Gala, 2019
Donning Giambattista Valli for the Met Gala 2019, Collins brought bridal chic to the pink carpet for the Camp: Notes on Fashion exhibition opening. She teamed the puff-sleeved mini dress and ruffle-edged train with a big bouffant hair ‘do and Sixties-style make-up, in homage to Priscilla Presley on her wedding day.
