This season’s coolest trend – the cut-out dress – is also one that pretty much styles itself. When fashion’s chicest “It” girls paraded the sexy look – on the runways and beyond – the trend was pushed to the top of our wish lists. Endorsed by mega-brands (Alexander McQueen, Saint Laurent, and Christopher Kane) and cult brands (Jacquemus and Khaite) alike, the cut-out dress trend was destined for success.

The flesh-flashing silhouette, however, first caught the eye of trend watchers when Gigi Hadid walked the Versace Spring/Summer 2020 runway in a stunning black dress, flaunting her midriff through a perfectly-placed slit.

Cut-out dresses were further thrust into popularity when models Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Hailey Beiber, and Romee Strijid showed off their carved abs in Cult Gaias now-viral ‘Serita’ Dress. With staycations and beach brunches back on our social calendars, we are finally (somewhat) ready to leave the comfort of loungewear in favor of something far more fashionable to take on the post-lockdown world.

The best part about the trend? Its ease of wear. It promises to fit seamlessly into your wardrobe because it requires little else to make it look good. Just slip on a pair of strappy heels and you’re ready to go.
