In Chanel‘s latest Metiers d’Art campaign, Academy Award winner Sofia Coppola and Chanel’s Creative Director, Virginie Viard, have teamed up again for a nostalgic homage to the historic salon, atelier, and private residence of Mademoiselle Gabrielle Coco Chanel at Rue 31 Cambon. Collaborating with photographer Melodie McDaniel, these female powerhouses have created a campaign full of intimate characteristics, elegance, and craft.
In an exclusive behind-the-scenes look, supermodels Gigi Hadid, Vittoria Ceretti, Mona Tougaard, Rebecca Leigh Longendyke, Anna Ewers, Ola Rudnicka, Pan Haowen and Blesnya Minher sport the new collection that is at once traditional and modern. The famous mirrored grand staircase — from which Coco herself would sit away from prying eyes to watch the girls below — is not only the backdrop for the campaign, but carries the spirit and essence of Mademoiselle Chanel reflected back in the faces of the models.
From the gilded minaudière that swings from a chain to the discreet details that capture the essence of the avant-garde couturier, the collection is imbued with a level of deep respect for the infamous designer and the things she loved. “You can tell that Virginie really loves Chanel and the heritage, and she’s protective of it,” observes Coppola. “When you wear something from the Metiers D’Art collection, you feel like you are wearing a piece of art,” says Vittoria Ceretti.
