Jordanian-Romanian designer Amina Muaddi’s ‘Gilda’ sandals were crowned the title of the ‘world’s hottest shoes’ in 2019. In its fourth-quarter index, Lyst ranked them as one of the top most-searched women’s products, coming in second to Gucci‘s ‘GG’ logo belt. In only two years of existence, Muaddi’s eponymous shoe brand (launched in 2018) has become the most coveted in the world, loved by celebrities such as Sofia Vergara, Gigi Hadid, and Kendall Jenner.
But all that seems like a lifetime ago, before the pandemic brought glitzy events and nights out to a screeching halt. Such is the charm of Amina Muaddi’s designs. The pandemic and ensuing consumer-demand shift didn’t negatively impact sales of her fabulous footwear. In fact, according to a report by Business of Fashion, Muaddi’s creations are pandemic-proof, and continue to sell out at luxury retailers – even though they are geared towards a lifestyle that seems virtually impossible for the foreseeable future.
Perhaps the biggest fangirl of the brand, Rihanna, commissioned Muaddi to design a limited-edition collection for her brand, Fenty. With fashion’s two favorite “It” girls collaborating, it’s safe to say that the collection is destined to be an instant hit.
For her Amina Muaddi x Fenty collaboration, the footwear designer continues to represent a strong, feminine aesthetic. Drawing inspiration from metal nails, the concept of strength is literally interpreted by the now-iconic shape of the Amina Muaddi heel. The head of the nail forms the base of the heel, while the point appears hammered into the sole. This distinctive design element has made the Amina Muaddi brand instantly recognizable worldwide.
Both Muaddi and Rihanna took to Instagram to announce that the limited-edition Amina Muaddi x Fenty collection will drop on July 20 on Fenty.com. Leave it to RiRi to get our hearts pounding with a teaser of the dream collection, highlighting the ‘Caged In’ sandals. Scroll down to see a picture of the towering heels, featuring lace-up straps that go all the way up to the calf. While you wait for the Amina Muaddi x Fenty shoe drop, you can find the new Fenty collection launched exclusively in the Middle East on Farfetch here.
