Restoring the concept of portraiture and pose to the traditional fashion editorial, Jennifer Lawrence is the muse of Dior’s new Fall/Winter 2020 campaign. In a juxtaposition of opposites, the aching elegance of the collection explores the idea that what is ladylike can also be daring, and what is timeless can also be modern.
In the video above, exclusively imagined by Savoir Flair’s own Halo Studio production team, emphasis is placed on the film’s illustrious co-stars: the accessories. Icons of the house, like the ‘Lady Dior’ bag, come in a sleek ultra-matte finish, while the ‘Saddle Bag’ is as playful as ever.
However, roving eyes can’t help but stop on the new ‘Dior Bobby’ bag, named in tribute to house founder Christian Dior’s beloved pet dog. Not only did the founder’s own collections frequently feature looks (particularly suiting) that were named ‘Bobby’ after his dog, but Maria Grazia Chiuri created the sleek, buckled bag in homage to the couturier’s canine as well.
Moving through the frames, Lawrence is a nostalgic screen siren, swishing into the room in a classic cape only to reveal a sleeveless, molded leather dress beneath – more vixen than virtuous. She is then seen in that red dress, an ode to the “Coup de Trafalgar” surprise moment Christian Dior placed in his shows.
As she moves, the accessories act as in-picture companions, tempting the eye as they pop and spin. The artful direction of the film interlaces with the dual themes of tradition and modernity that permeate the entire collection.
