The death of George Floyd at the hands of the Minneapolis Police has reignited the rage against racial injustices with mass demonstrations taking place across the world. There is no doubt that racial inequality must be called out and fought against. While there are many ways to do so, educating yourself on the issues of allyship and supporting people of color is tremendously important.

The black community has made huge contributions to both the fashion and beauty industry, unfortunately without being given enough credit. It’s an understatement to say change is long overdue. Now is the time to make a conscious effort to support businesses owned by minorities.

A new Instagram page dedicated to shining the spotlight on fashion, beauty, and lifestyle businesses owned by people of color in the UAE – @blackowneduae – was created last week. The page – as its name suggests – features black-owned brands in the UAE.

Launched by fashion, beauty, lifestyle, and travel blogger Monique L. Spearman, the social media platform took shape after one of her posts about black-owned businesses in the UAE went viral. Inspired by her dedication, we decided to highlight her efforts and point your feed toward some beautiful content in support of local black-owned businesses. Scroll down to find the page that operates as a platform for amazing brands owned by incredibly talented people.
