This week’s Style Watch highlights one of Fall/Winter 2013’s least recognized trends: the draped skirt.
On the runway, skirts came in layers, ruffles, and even turban-like wraps – each offering a new way to add dimension to an oft-overlooked tailoring opportunity. Amanda Seyfried demonstrates a ruffled version in navy Givenchy with an elegant, rippled ruffle that drapes across the front of the frock. Kate Hudson’s drape comes in a crisscross variety from Balmain, while Joan Smalls wears a bisected print skirt from Altuzarra. A slice of skirt is cut away from Diane Kruger’s structured Mary Kantrantzou dress, and Emma Roberts shows how the new drape can work in voluminous dimensions by wearing a two-tiered, layered Michael Kors version. Elsewhere, floral prints were seen on darker tones for the approaching fall season, with Rose Byrne in a muted Erdem dress, while stars like Jennifer Aniston and Olivia Wilde opted for more sleek, classic looks. Compare skirts and pattern choices by Hollywood’s hottest stars in our Style Watch gallery above.
