No, it’s not déjà vu. Ricky Gervais really was back as the host of the annual Golden Globe Awards – for his fifth time, no less. As is his custom, Gervais skewered everyone and everything, from the power brokers of Hollywood to the spectacularly weird onscreen adaptation of Cats. While his irreverent brand of humor is predictable at this point, what wasn’t predictable was how both veteran and newcomers alike turned out for the red carpet. 

We expected the usual mix of high glamour, and were served that and then some. A colorful explosion of voluminous gowns dominated the scene, as did plunge-front necklines and glittering adornments. What surprised us was Charlize Theron’s neon moment, the major sleeves served by Dakota Fanning and Cate Blanchett, and that immaculate pantsuit spotted on Phoebe Waller-BridgeFor better and occasionally for worse, these are the red carpet looks from Golden Globes 2020 that caught our attention.
