Most fashion trends are about adding something to your wardrobe (a new bag, a new shoe, a new hat), but this risqué one is about subtracting something: bras. We’ve noticed this undergarment quickly becoming a thing of the past, with bra-less celebrities stepping out in sophisticated blazers on top – and not much else.

However, there might be a sound reason behind it. Science has recently proven that bras are bad for you. Jean-Denis Rouillon, a professor based at the University of Franche-Comté, conducted a 15-year study on the effect of bras on women aged 18 to 35. What he and his team found is conclusive evidence that bras do nothing to help support the chest, reduce sagging, or prevent back pain. “Medically, physiologically, anatomically – breasts gain no benefit from being denied gravity. On the contrary, they get saggier with a bra,” he revealed.

Considering the science and the obvious support – pun intended – of the no-bra revolution by the gallery of celebrities below, this trend is one that looks to have real staying power. Wallflowers need not apply.
