Burberry and Google collaborate to bring emotion to technology.
Burberry, the digital pioneer of the fashion industry, has done it yet again, announcing today a collaboration with Google entitled ‘Burberry Kisses’. Burberry’s Chief Creative Officer Christopher Bailey explains, “We’re constantly thinking about how we translate the emotion of what we create and experience in the real world into the digital space, whether that’s capturing the energy and excitement of a live gig, the hum and buzz of anticipation before a runway show, or just the feeling you get when you pull on your trench coat on a rainy morning. Burberry Kisses began with the idea of giving technology a bit of heart and soul, and using it to unite the Burberry family across the world – by telling a story that makes the digital personal.”
The new initiative allows users to capture and send a kiss around the world by visiting Kisses.Burberry.com. Google’s ‘Kiss Recognition’ technology uses a desktop’s camera or a smartphone’s touch screen to detect the kiss, capturing the exact shape of the sender’s pout. Users can then include a personal message and color their kiss using one of Burberry Beauty’s lip colors before sending it across the web. But Burberry and Google haven’t stopped there. Once you’ve sent your kiss, Google Earth and Google Street View technologies chart its journey across 3-D city landscapes and stunning skylines to its destination. These journeys will also be added to Burberry’s realtime ‘World of Kisses’ map, on which you will be able to watch different kisses being sent around the world. From now on, we’ll all be signing, sealing, and delivering with a Burberry Kiss.
