This month, Tala Samman speaks to street style favorite and doll-faced Russian designer Vika Gazinskaya about her travel essentials, her fitness routine, and her diet.
A tastemaker is the kind of girl who leaps before she looks, constantly evolving and ready for any style challenge. She’s a creator and a leader. Vika Gazinskaya is exactly that, and our own favorite regional tastemaker, contributing Savoir Flair editor Tala Samman, tracked down this buzzed-about Moscow designer to pick her brain on everything from her personal style beliefs to how she got her signature haircut. Read Samman’s interview with Gazinskaya below.
What are your favorite boutiques?
Colette in Paris, Fivestory in New York, and Symphony in Dubai
How would you define your style?
I’m always trying to find a new way of dressing, not wearing must-have items but finding my own style.
Who are your favorite designers?
The designers that I follow every season and always wonder what they’re going to show next are Stella McCartney, Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein, Miuccia Prada, Stefano Pilati, and Raf Simons. Hopefully, Nicolas Ghesquière will be back soon!
What are your travel essentials?
I travel in sneakers and comfortable clothing, but in my suitcase you’ll find clothing, high heels, cosmetics, lingerie – everything I could need for any circumstances in life.
How do you look after your skin?
I have the best facialist, Natalia Melnikova. I’ve been going to her for 12 years.
Do you detox?
I follow a special program called ‘green buckwheat’ every three months. It’s not really a diet but more like fasting. It cleanses the whole body and generates energy. As for vitamins and supplements, I’m a vegetarian and can’t drink cod-liver oil, so I take linseed oil on an empty stomach. I’m more into a natural intake of supplements. The idea is to eat ‘living’ products that are filled with nutrients. I’m against instant foods or fast foods that contain nothing that is food for your health.
Which hairdresser is responsible for your signature bob?
A man named Petya. He cuts my hair under my close guidance, executing my own ideas. I always say that I cut my own hair with Petya’s hands.
What is your fitness regimen?
I‘ve been going to the gym for eight years now. I make my own sets of exercises, which I learned to do from previous sessions with professional trainers.
What is the beauty product that you swear by?
Crème de la Mer.
How do you pamper yourself?
Lots of sleep and spa days.
Do you have a favorite spa?
In Moscow, I go to Bely Sad, which means the white garden. I also love discovering great news spas in Asia.
What are your favorite Museums?
The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark, the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, the Pushkin Museum in Moscow, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
What is your cooking specialty?
I don’t really cook but I can make Russian pancakes.
What is your coffee order?
Coffeemania in Moscow has the best cappuccino in the world, and yes – I am very much into cappuccinos.
Is there anything that we don’t know about you but should?
I think that fashion and clothes are only a ‘thing’ and don’t deserve this kind of addiction; it’s just not worth it. You have to be able to live happily without purchasing a lot of new clothes every season.
Vika Gazinskaya Spring/Summer 2013 is exclusively available at Symphony, The Dubai Mall in the UAE.
