Do you ever feel like Nancy Drew, sleuthing out the details of celebrity lives according to their cryptic social media posts? They leave so many breadcrumbs that it’s hard not to turn into an armchair detective. Enter: Hailey Bieber, who not only is a current fixture of runways like Tommy Hilfiger and Off-White, but also just left us dangling with a mysterious post to her Instagram Stories.
Alongside a photo of herself walking the runway at the Zadig & Voltaire Fall/Winter 2018 show, Bieber pointed out her arm positioning with the caption, “What I do know, is that ur arm truly should never swing this high when ur walking on a runway.. hence why it is not, and will never be my thing again lol.”
Okay, okay, that’s not an explicit confession of retirement, but saying that it “will never be my thing again” seems pretty indicative that Bieber is quitting the catwalk – at least for the time being. Another clue came when we found out that she mentioned in a previous interview with WWD that she planned to reduce her bookings at New York Fashion Week. Although she seems pretty active in shooting campaigns, runway modeling is a lot more challenging, given the insanely hectic pace of Fashion Week – Fashion Month, really.
The demanding schedule, coupled with the pressures to look perfect for one’s big runway moment, is a lot to shoulder. We’re still seeing the model’s lovely face splashed across our feeds in a campaign alongside Xiao Wen Ju for Charles & Keith’s Fall/Winter 2019 collection as well as her recent swimwear collaboration with Roxy. She has clearly built a stellar career from modeling, but the runway may no longer be an appealing avenue to building her portfolio.
We say, you do you, Hailey Bieber.
