Chanel kicked off its ‘Mademoiselle Privé’ exhibition in Shanghai with a star-studded party. Held within the same space as the exhibition – West Bund, a former airplane hangar in the city’s uber-cool arts district – the evening hosted some of the biggest local celebrities and friends of the brand, alongside international names like Keira Knightley, Julianne Moore, and Caroline de Maigret.
While guests dined on a selection of Asian delicacies – including dim sum, noodles, and baos that were served up at live cooking stations – and reimagined Western fare, French musical duo Ibeyi took the stage to kick things off with their unique blend of live percussion and experimental R&B. Of French and Cuban origins, the twin sisters are no strangers to the Chanel stage, having performed at the brand’s Cruise 2017 party in Havana.
DJ James Righton took over the sound system for the next hour, before making way for the evening’s headliner, pop sensation Dua Lipa. Styling a Chanel cardigan and one-piece bathing suit over black tights and wearing the brand’s statement bejeweled ‘CHA’ and ‘NEL’ earrings – look out for them on every fashion girl’s wish list this year – she performed hit after hit, keeping the crowd on their toes well into the night.
