For years, the Middle East has been growing its fashion stature on the global stage, reaching elite levels by presenting at couture week in Paris, infiltrating the Hollywood red carpet, opening fashion-forward boutiques in unexpected places, leveraging buying power to increase visibility, and launching fashion weeks left and right. Fashion Trust Arabia (FTA), which gives up to $200,000 in seed money to aid the growth of our emerging talents, just gave the region a big boost up with its inaugural awards ceremony last weekend.
Not only did FTA celebrate the incredible work of homegrown designers like Amine Jressati, Sandra Mansour, and Roni Helou, but also enticed some of fashion’s biggest names to discover the astonishing talent of Arab creatives. We spotted Pierpaolo Picciolo of Valentino and Olivier Rousteing of Balmain exploring the collections on display, and appreciating the designers behind the brands. Diane von Fursternbeg was also out in support of the cause, as were fashion icons like Naomi Campbell. And with celebrities like Johnny Depp and Hailee Steinfeld in attendance, this was easily one of the most star-studded events the region has ever seen.
